What In The World Do Circus Clowns, Bearded Ladies, Hootchie Girls & Genie Bras have To Do With Pull Marketing Examples For Small Business Marketing?

Looking back at years past and memories of long ago. A child wonders in amazement and learns a lesson of how to attract the clients and bring home the bacon. Yeah quite an awkward analogy to open up with between circus clown, bearded ladies and small business marketing. When push comes to shove and aggressive marketers pissing off new prospects you had better learn the pull marketing methods from some of the greatest minds on the planet.

If you think about it the circus has long been a platform for making sales and delivering masterfully crafted speeches geared to attract boys & girls alike; “Ladies & Gentlemen, Children of all ages, come one come all to see the freakishly scary bearded lady…” You know those master headlines that make people’s curiosity pique. I stumbled across a great blog post from pr101.biz (see blockquote below for link information) and it got me really thinking today about a few crafty and pull marketing campaigns or sites that I have came across lately. This first campaign is about a genie bra and it features a full length post, video of the commercial and an explanation with video reviews and testimonials. As you see the lens has gotten quite a following and a large number of comments as well.

When you compare push marketing versus pull marketing you can see the two opposing forces at work in action.

Walking around all day, I learned my first marketing lesson as I watched the barkers work. The line for the hootchie shows (girlie shows for you young ones) was long. All the barker had to do was collect the money. The garishly painted signs hanging from the tent did the work.
The barker the outside the bearded lady’s tent was working a lot harder. He was literally at times trying to push people into the tent. I think he was even offering a two-for-one deal: the Bearded Lady and the Siamese Twins for the price of a single ticket.

circus clowns push marketingIt’s always easier to catch a fly with honey instead of salt and this is a very strong fact that all marketers have to deal with. If your marketing has been producing lackluster results and you have been blatantly pushing your sales message on your readers then this should be a nice wake up call for you to make a few simple changes to your marketing methods to start pulling in your audience instead of pushing them away. Like the barker at the circus trying to attract peopl eto the bearded lady.
